Does anyone know a cheap programmer for OpenServo. Or even better a selfbuild.
Thanks in advance! |

Hi,
You have a few options
1) Build a cable called an STK200
http://www.robotgames.net/atmel/Cables.htm has the different types, and the merits of each type
2) Buy an AVR programmer board. Something like the STK200 or an STK500
3) if you are feeling brave, the OSIF has a beta AVR programmer built in as well as I2C
http://www.robotfuzz.com/OSIF (note this is my product)
Depending on how brave you are feeling, the OSIF is a good product and will do the OpenServo comms too. It comes with OpenServo sample applications and basic test software. The bad news is the OSIF AVR programmer only works in Linux (for now), the I2C portion is completely cross platform.
If you plan on doing a lot of dev work, or you just fancy having a good dev board, get an Atmel STK board.

Thanks ginge for the reply...
Is it possible to download the application with the OSIF, after flashing the AVR with it's initial bootloader firmware? |

Hi,
yes, the application download is done through I2C, which is what the OSIF was designed for.
There are applications in CVS for Linux and Windows.
