Hello, I am new here.

Ever since I was in junior high school, I have been interested in all things technological, especially robotics. I've programmed in as many as six different computer languages, including APL, several dialects of BASIC, FORTRAN, Pascal, and C with some C++.

My highest education is a year of electronics technology training at a local vocational school which I finished with high honors. Although I have had a few programming courses and more electronics courses, I am still mostly self taught, which is the approach I am taking now with robotics and electronics to build on what I already have learned.

I am purchasing the 3D CAD software I use and have just completed the hardware build and am starting on the software for my first robot - an octagonal shaped differential drive critter controlled by a Basic Atom microcontroller. It has just one sensor at present - an IRPD (IR Proximity Detector). I have designs for a hexapod, several octapods, and many different legs. I also have designs for two hybrid robots that have four wheels as well as their legs. One is a hybrid hexapod and the other is a hybrid octapod. Both have four indepenently driven, steerable, and fully retractable (for walking) wheels.

I never listen when somebody tells me I can't do something because I don't have the training or education or any degrees. In every case so far, I have proven these people who have said these things wrong and hope to continue doing so. Very Happy

I am hoping I can eventually use Open Servos in my designs, and think that a standard form servo with these capabilities is a very exciting thing. I will be using mostly Lynxmotion Servo Erector Set parts to build my prototypes.

Hi there,

Welcome to OpenServo. You don't need degrees to get things done, self motivation is a powerful thing! It's good to have a fellow Linux guy around here, I have lots of OpenServo code and kernel drivers for the platform that needs a good testing, it looks like your my guy Wink

I look forward to seeing your (slightly crazy sounding) robots!

Thanks much, Barry! I really would like to help out on this project, and do have a use for Open Servos. My Linux (Gentoo 2006) box also runs FreeBSD 6.0 in case you would like to try testing with that platform also. Right now, I really need to get a separate machine built for Linux since I have committed quark to running FreeBSD and doing DNS and web hosting for one of my domains.

However, I am on a very limited income and just can't afford much for parts and would want to get assembled boards. My small amount of disposable income is now mostly taken up by my purchase of my CAD software.

When assembled Open Servos are available, I will sure try and get some and experiment/test as much as possible. I have a LOT of time for testing and experimentation, since I am disabled and do not work. I will be happy to do what I can to help out in whatever way(s) I can.

You can see everything there is to see and read about my robots on my website. Very Happy
